Unyap Privacy Policy
Unyap is a private voice transcription app for Android (package codes.felix.whisp), developed by Felix Gerberding. This policy explains what data Unyap does and does not handle.
The short version: Unyap transcribes audio entirely on your device. Your audio recordings and the transcripts they produce never leave your phone.
Data Unyap collects
None. Unyap does not collect, store, or transmit any personal or device data. There are no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, no user accounts, and no sign-in.
How your audio is processed
When you share an audio file into Unyap, or pick one using your device’s file picker, Unyap transcribes it locally using an on-device speech recognition model.
- Your audio is processed in memory on your device and is never uploaded to any server.
- The resulting transcript stays on your device. Unyap does not save transcripts. Once you leave the transcription screen the text is gone, unless you have copied or shared it yourself.
- Unyap does not keep a copy of the audio files you transcribe.
Network access
Unyap connects to the internet for one purpose only: on first launch it downloads the speech recognition model it needs from Hugging Face, a third-party model host. This is a one-time download.
- Like any internet download, this request reveals your device’s IP address to Hugging Face and its content delivery network. This is a normal and unavoidable part of downloading a file from the internet.
- Unyap does not send your audio, your transcripts, or any personal information as part of this request.
- After the model has been downloaded, Unyap works fully offline. No network connection is needed to transcribe audio.
Permissions
Unyap requests a single permission:
- Internet - used only to download the speech recognition model described above.
Unyap does not request access to your microphone, location, contacts, or device storage. It can read an audio file only when you explicitly share it into Unyap or select it with the system file picker, which grants Unyap temporary read access to that one file.
Data retention
- The downloaded speech recognition model is stored in Unyap’s private app storage on your device.
- Audio and transcripts are not retained by the app.
- Uninstalling Unyap removes the model and all of the app’s data from your device.
Third-party services
- Hugging Face hosts the speech recognition model that Unyap downloads. See the Hugging Face Privacy Policy.
- Google Play distributes the app. See the Google Privacy Policy.
Unyap does not integrate any third-party analytics or advertising services.
Children’s privacy
Unyap is not directed at children under the age of 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date.
